6 ways Bing USA insults the British (and 1 the French) 8

Posted on June 10, 2009 by Malcolm Coles

Bing USA is better than Bing UK as I recently pointed out. And if you use Bing USA, you don't just get more features - you get to see how Microsoft paints Britain to the Americans.

It's not a pretty sight as these screenshots show (they also show that nearly all UK-related terms searched for in Bing USA return wikipedia first or second) .

1 Bing USA: Gordon Brown picks his nose

Gordon Brown picks his nose.

Gordon Brown picks his nose.

Ouch. Also, that third result is not an official Gordon Brown site - it's some Christian slagging him off.

2 Bing USA: the FT is theft

Ooooh - satire.

Ooooh - satire.

SEO David Naylor spotted that one. A comment on the collapse of the banking system perhaps?

3 Bing USA: Lady Di is a dog

Avoid. Obvious. Gag.

Avoid. Obvious. Gag.

And what's that weird fantasy picture on the right?

4 Bing USA: There is only one pub in London

There's only one pub in London apparently

There's only one pub in London apparently

I'm guessing everyone in it is American if it's the only one they know about ... It must be busy, too.

5 Bing USA: You may be hearing from Ian Duncan Smith's lawyers ...

I'm not sure that telling MP Iain Duncan Smith he is a related search term to fascist Nick Griffin is a great idea ...

It's all about the company you keep ...

It's all about the company you keep ...

6 Bing USA: UK - meet the University of Kentucky

The second best result for a search in Bing in America for UK is .. the University of Kentucky. Where's the special relationship now?

Really? The University of Kentucky?

Really? The University of Kentucky?

7 At least they stick it to the French too.

France: your president is a drunk

Sarkozy is a drunk

Sarkozy is a drunk

Brilliant! LOL! I'm a bit fed up with the US bias of so many sites - and that so many people believe in their flawed 'statistics'. Hey, what's your Alexa ranking? Don't they understand that Alexa is completely useless? Even more so if you have a non-USA site.

It's time for us Brits to fight back against this former colony which has now got too big for its boots. But we need some British initiatives to give us an alternative - and where are they? Oh well, at least they slagged off the French too. ;-) C'est la vie.

Did you mean to create a link? I'd love to look.

Not that I'm a name dropper but I can't resist the chance of telling you that I've met both of the people you mentioned.

If I was in America I'd sue you for damage to my keyboard. :-)
