All a bit complicated for me. What about asking the nice (so they say) people at Google to develop something?

I know I'm a bit late for this post, but why not just use cite+title="URL" in the html? Never link to horrid sources. Especially not Jan Moir or Melanie Phillips!

Complaining to the PCC about the Daily Mail might be pointless.

Perhaps Jan Moir simply does her bosses bidding. Her job is probably safe because:

Paul Dacre (Editor of the Daily Mail) is Chairman of the Code Committee for the Press Complaints Commission.

Peter Wright, Editor of The Mail on Sunday is a Member of the Press Complaints Commission.

("Paul Dacre, editor-in-chief of Associated Newspapers and a board director at parent company Daily Mail & General Trust, received £1.62m in salary and cash payments for the year to 28 September 2008".)

Great advice thanks Malcolm, I knew about the "nofollow" links - but I didn't know how to insert them myself. Now I can link to whatever I like!

Greg - I definitely checked this. I always check this. I remember checking this on this occasion as I was SO surprised (I do a lot of searches for 'a' in my toolbar as a way to make the google page appear!).

However, I no longer see it either - although I also don't see her first if I sign into my Google account. Odd.

Fortunately, the rest of the advice doesn't depend on whether she ranks for 'a' or not!

Are you certain that personalisation was disabled for your query on 'a'? I've searched for 'a' with pws=0 added to my search and haven't found the Mail article in the top 30..

You don't need to worry about Twitter - it automatically adds nofollow to its links. Good point, though - I shall add it to the post.

I know using bit.ly alone doesn't solve the problem, but for Twitter and such, can you add nofollow into the bit.ly link you use? Does that work?
