Minimalistic is not a word. Minimalist is. But minimal is better. 8

There is no such word as minimalistic. The word is minimalist. (Or minimal as Brian points out in the comments). Don't believe me? Try this dictionary.

There's something a bit ironic about people misusing minimalist by making it longer than necessary ... Although as there are 1.7 million uses of minimalistic on the internet, perhaps ironic doesn't quite cover it.

I personally prefer minimalistastic. It means fantastically sparse.

  2. Erm, it doesn't. See point above about it not being a word.

  3. Pink says:

I know it's not a real word. It's fun making them up though.

  4. Brian says:

Actually the word isn't minimalist... it's just minimal, minimal is an adjective, minimalist is a noun, minimalistic, if it were a word would be an adjective and would describe something which pertained to minimalism, i.e. something minimal. ergo minimalistic = minimal.

    hooray for pedantry.
